How to Order Tempura
in Japan
Ordering tempura does not need to be complicated. Here are a few easy ways to choose a meal at Miyabi, whether you want a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner.
For a first visit, choose an assortment
An assorted tempura plate is the simplest place to start. It lets you try a mix of seafood and vegetables chosen for the day, without needing to know every ingredient. Our chef’s selection changes with the season and the market.
Lunch: set meal or tendon?
A tempura set meal is a balanced Japanese lunch with rice, soup and side dishes. Choose it when you would like to enjoy each piece of tempura alongside a full meal.
Tendon is a tempura rice bowl. It is a satisfying, more casual choice when you would like tempura and rice together in one bowl.
Dinner: order a few pieces and explore
In the evening, you can enjoy tempura alongside small plates, sashimi, beer or Japanese sake. Start with an assortment, or choose individual pieces if there is something you especially want to try.
Two helpful things to tell us
Please tell us about any allergies before ordering. Our tempura batter contains wheat and egg. If you have dietary needs, you are welcome to ask about the vegetables and dishes available that day.
Simple English assistance is available, and pointing to the menu or using a translation app is completely fine.
